Nigerian ace singer, songwriter and performer, Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, shared his thoughts on the 2022 #ENDSARS protest that left some Nigerians dead.

The #ENDSARS movement was a peaceful protest organised and led by Nigerian youths in October 2020 to march against police brutality, bad governance, and other mind-shattering vices in the country. However, the protest was met by the gruesome massacre of civilians on October 20, 2020, at the Lekki-Toll Gate in Lagos.

The Grammy-award-winning artiste, who recently bagged a 2022 BET Hip-Hop Award nomination in the video directing category, spoke with popular British style magazine “Dazed”, and the singer didn’t hold back on his thoughts about the political situation in his country, Nigeria.

Known as a major voice in speaking about the socio-political activities of his people through his music, the “African Giant” in the interview made it known that his thoughts about the #ENDSARS movement do not matter.

According to him, even though blood was shed during the protest, things would still remain the same until something (the required change) is actually ready to happen. The ace singer, who documented the #ENDSARS protest with the song “20 10 20,” said:

My thoughts don’t matter around that. Nothing is going to change. It just is what is… I’m not going to encourage any young people to lose their lives senselessly anymore, d’you understand? When something is ready to happen, it will happen. I understand that now. You can’t jump into something that you don’t fully understand, even with our country. With understanding comes readiness for action.
