Veteran Music Executive and Producer Michael Collins Ajereh, popularly known as Don Jazzy has revealed how he met ace vocalist Wande Coal.
Speaking with prolific UK-based Nigerian broadcaster and ardent promoter of Afrobeat in the diaspora, Olajide Adesope, on his Afrobeats Podcast, Don Jazzy recalled how he met the talented Wande Coal, stating that he met him while he was at a show at Unilag. Wande Coal and his crew pulled up on Don Jazzy, stating that they wanted to dance for Jazzy, who, at the time, was a big figure with D’Banj in the music industry. After dancing for Don Jazzy, the crew went on to state that they could sing too, and it was at that point that Don Jazzy said he realized the artistic brilliance of Wande Coal. Don Jazzy exchanged numbers with him and the rest became history.
On the podcast, Don Jazzy also discusses how the COO of Mavin Recods, Tega Oghenejobo, plays an important role in the growth of Mavin and the music industry at large. He also went on to highlight the importance of D’Banj’s personality in his growth. According to Don Jazzy, most of the time he was always content with his space, but D’Banj continually pushed him to do more.
Don Jazzy also discussed interesting topics such as international management for Nigerian acts, Mavin Records’ operation, the Roc Nation deal that was supposed to happen, and other interesting topics in a chat that lasted over fifty minutes.
