The President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Emeka Rollas has reacted to the brutalization and arrest of veteran actor Chiwetalu Agu yesterday afternoon.
Series of videos hit the internet where it was seen that some Nigerian army personnel were brutalizing and dragging the veteran actor for wearing a Biafran outfit; which shows that he is a pro-Biafran; a movement proscribed by the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
According to reports, the actor was dragged out of his car by the soldiers which had the inscription “Chinwetalu Films”. The car was then searched by the security operatives before he was manhandled by the soldiers who fired some shots to scare off the crowd which gathered.
Some told the media that the actor was on his charity mission where he regularly gifts the less privileged with food items when he was arrested by the soldiers and manhandled.
Reacting to the videos and his arrest, the President of the actor’s guild of Nigeria Emeka Rollas has disclosed that they are doing everything possible to bail him out. The actor is said to have been taken to 82 Division Enugu on Thursday.
He said that the Guild is doing everything possible to ensure Chiwetalu Agu is released. “I don’t know why he put on Biafra regalia. The state is hot. We are in talks with the military officials to ensure he is released. I heard they have taken him to the 82 Division of the Nigeria Military base. We will do our best.
Please I will call you back”, he told a correspondent from the media.
