‘As long as they didn’t kill anyone, stop dismissing Police men for ordinary misconduct’ –Actress Shan George slams NPF

Shan George, Nollywood actress, has condemned moves by the Nigerian Police Force to outrightly dismiss everyone found guilty of misconduct.

She said this in reaction to the dismissal of a police officer, Corporal Opeyemi Kadiri with Force No. 509745, attached to Dolphin Divisional Headquarters, Lagos Police Command for gross misconduct, disobedience to lawful order, and assault on a member of the public captured in a viral video on August 3, 2022.

Kadiri, enlisted into the Force on December 6, 2016, was caught searching a commuter’s phone by the roadside contrary to the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba.

The dismissed officer also assaulted the commuter who attempted to bring the order to his notice.

Announcing his dismissal in a statement by Force spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the police stated that his dismissal took effect from August 12, 2022.

Nigerian Police Force further called on officers and men of the Force to maintain professionalism and civility to members of the public in the discharge of their duties in line with extant laws, urging members of the public to ensure proper conduct in all encounters with police to avoid infractions that may lead to prosecution.

Meanwhile, in reaction to this, Shan George frowned at it, stating that dismissal for ordinary misconduct is punishment too heavy.

She wrote, “As Long As They Didn’t Kill Anyone. Suspend Them, Demote Them, Cut down their Salary Re Re-orientate Them, But Don’t Dismiss PoliceMen. Nigerian Police, Nigerian government stop dismissing policemen.”
